Abstract: This research investigates buckling in stiffened cylindrical structures. A novel approach using one-dimensional finite element refined beam elements is proposed to bridge the gap between beam and shell theories. These elements are enhanced with higher-order displacement fields derived from Taylor’s expansion. The governing equations are formulated using the principle of virtual displacement. Buckling analyses are conducted on various shell configurations, including simple, longitudinally stiffened, and transversely ribbed cylinders. The results are validated against beam theory, 3D FEM, and analytical solutions for different geometric parameters. This innovative approach provides a unified framework for accurate buckling prediction in beam-shell structures.
